Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometimes declines,
By chance or nature's changing course, untrimmed;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

그대는 보다 아름답고 온화합니다.

거친 바람이 5월의 향긋한 꽃봉오리를 흔들고

여름날은 너무나도 짧지요.

 

때때로 태양은 너무나 뜨겁게 비치지만,

그 금빛 얼굴은 자주 흐려지기도 합니다.

어떤 미인도 언젠가는 그 아름다움이 기울어지고

우연이나 자연의 변화로 고운 치장 빼앗깁니다.

 

그러나 그대의 여름은 영원히 시들지 않고

그대가 지닌 그 아름다움도 사라지지 않을 것입니다.

또한 죽음도 그의 어둠 속에서 그대가 떠돈다고 떠벌리지 못할 것입니다.

이 불멸의 시 속에서 그대는 영원할 테니까요,

인간이 숨 쉬고 눈이 있어 볼 수 있는 한,

이 시는 살아 그대에게 생명을 줄 것입니다.
